I first visited Japan in 2015 for a work trip without my wife, I love the country and the people.

My wife and I have rallied in a few countries around the world including Ireland, Barbados, California USA, Arctic Circle Finland, Safari Kenya and New Zealand, but we never rallied in Asia.

When I return home from Japan I mentioned to my wife we must do a rally is this wonderful country. There is no better way to view a country than through the front window of a rally car. Rallying brings you to places you will never see if you were a tourist. You also get to meet the local people and get to make great friends.

The Shinshiro Rally made perfect sense as the rally sound very similar too my surname, Shinnors !

Japan has a very rich car culture and has a very successful rallying history, 7 WRC manufactures titles and 11 WRC driver titles won using Japanese cars!

Hopefully Toyota can add another WRC title (or two) this year, and also next year with the help of North Ireland’s Kris Meeke.

For Shinshiro Rally I’m delighted to be driving a Toyota GT86, these cars are great to drive.

We are no stranger to rallying with the Toyota brand, we are big Toyota supporters, my Ford Escort MK2 rallycar in Ireland is powered by a Toyota 1600cc 4AGE engine.

Prior to navigating me, Catherine my wife used to compete rally driving her own Toyota Corolla AE82, she also has a Toyota Corolla GTi AE82 road car !

Our objective for Shinshiro Rally is to have FUN and a rear wheel drive Toyota is just the tool!

From what we have seen of the roads in Japan, they look tight and twisty, very similar too Corsica WRC rally, so we know this rally will be a challenging.

We are really looking forward to experiencing Japanese rallying, we cannot wait for it to start!

I’d like to thank Takumi Takahashi from Terzomarumura, without him this adventure wouldn’t happen.
